Spring Has Sprung

Welcome New Beginnings

· Change,Newness,New Beginnings,Spring

Happy Spring my friends!!! It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you (in my Rakim voice). The last few weeks have definitely been a challenge for me on so many levels. Though I have not provided you all with any articles in the last 4 weeks or so, I promise you it’s been on my mind DAILY. My actions (or inaction in this case) are usually dictated by my spirit to do things. There was an article I wanted to have completed while we were still in the month of March during Women’s History month, but I felt that it wasn’t TIME, so I held off on doing any writing, plus, we don’t need any created "month" to talk about the awesomeness of women anyway, so that article will be forthcoming. I do want to talk about the significance of this time of year and inviting change into our life.

Many people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which is essentially feeling down or depressed even (from a clinical perspective), as a result of the cold or wintery weather. Literally, SAD makes people feel sad. During this time, the sun doesn’t shine as much and the darkened days mixed with the colder temps creates a melancholy for some. Most function as best they can, however, the drab days can affect us all. I can’t say this is what I was feeling, but I can say that now that Spring Has Sprung, I have a new attitude about life and the future😎 . As a therapist, I see a lot of clients who have difficulty managing certain areas in their life. Oftentimes, there may be occasions where those clients may feel overwhelmed and are unable to deal with these events. One theme that comes up frequently is “change,” usually, the fear of it, as well the inability to cope with it. For many, this time of year is the perfect time to start anew. The shedding of the old and the springing up of new ideas and things are very intriguing and attractive to us all. I am not saying that just because it is springtime that you will get a new “boo” or anything like that lol, however, I am suggesting that now may be a great time to start to work on you and take advantage of the change in weather and the change in the atmosphere and maybe that will provide a change in how we see the world around us. Why not make this time of year a perfect backdrop for the life you want to create? Now I know that this may sound easier said than done and it may be, but why not try? Even in those moments where we may not be our best, we still have to rise above what is expected of us. This means perhaps doing that which may not come naturally to us and overcoming our fear to make a change. Allow the newness of this time we are in, to work on creating some new ventures in your life. Maybe you want to take a class, start going to the gym or start a business, whatever it is, take the time to look into exploring the options in your life. Hopefully, with the change of season, you can open up to the possibilities of creating new possibilities and positive changes in your life. Don’t allow the sadness of the past to bog you down with regret. Spring into action and see what this time of year has to bring.
